Saffron Day is a day to honour the life of little Deyaan Udani, a bright seven year old boy with an infectious smile, who tragically passed away in 2016.
Deyaan and his older sister Naisha had learned about organ & tissue donation at school. The siblings told their parents they wanted to be organ donors to help save the lives of others. Deyaan’s parents’ decision to donate his organs meant that four lives were saved as a result of this incredible gift.

Deyaan’s family came up with the idea of Saffron Day because orange was Deyaan’s favourite colour and because Saffron symbolises courage, strength and sacrifice, qualities seen in little Deyaan.

They are urging all Australians to ‘Do it for Deyaan’ on Saffron Day by registering their decision to become an organ and tissue donor.

Getting involved in Saffron Day 2018 is easy! Here’s how you can get behind it:

  • Step 1: ‘Do it for Deyaan’ – register your decision to save lives as an organ and tissue donor at donatelife.gov.au
  • Step 2: Post your decision on social media on Friday 9 November 2018 with the hashtags #SaffronDay #DoitforDeyaan
  • Step 3: Encourage family and friends to do the same, and wear orange on Saffron Day
