Acceptable Use Policy

Policies on our social media accounts

This user policy is in addition to any user policy or terms and conditions imposed by the Facebook/Instagram/LinkedIn/X host.

When communicating with the Organ and Tissue Authority’s (OTA) and DonateLife’s official Facebook/Instagram/LinkedIn/X accounts (our accounts) or on our pages, you may express your views, comments, ideas and insights about the OTA and DonateLife.

At the same time, you should show courtesy and respect to others and must not abuse others, expose others to offensive or inappropriate content, or use the platform for any unlawful purpose.

When communicating with our accounts or on our pages, please ensure that you:

  • Do protect your personal privacy and that of others by not sharing personal information about yourself or others, including OTA and DonateLife staff (for example, names, email addresses, private addresses or phone numbers).
  • Do not share specific dates or identifying details of organ donation or transplantation on our pages. Organ and tissue donation is anonymous in Australia.
  • Do represent your own views and not impersonate or falsely represent any other person or organisation.
  • Do not be abusive, harass or threaten others.
  • Do not make defamatory or libelous comments. This includes making false or unfair statements that are likely to damage the reputation of a person or organisation.
  • Do not use insulting, provocative, discriminatory or hateful language.
  • Do not use obscene or offensive language.
  • Do not post material that infringes the intellectual property rights of others.
  • Do not use the DonateLife brand without prior written approval from the Organ and Tissue Authority.
  • Do not post multiple versions of the same view or make excessive postings on a particular issue.
  • Do not promote commercial interests, petitions, or make other unsolicited requests.
  • Do not include internet addresses or links to websites, or any email addresses in your comments.
  • Do not make unsubstantiated claims or factually incorrect comments, including against individuals or organisations, or in relation to Government policy.
  • Do not encourage conduct that may or would constitute a criminal offence or give rise to civil liability, or that otherwise violates any local, provincial, national or international law or regulation anywhere in the world.
  • Do not incite hatred or discrimination on the basis of any personal characteristic, including on the basis of race, gender, marital or domestic status, disability, sexuality or age.
  • Do not identify matters that are currently the subject of legal proceedings or would break a court’s non-publication order.
  • Do not make comments that are irrelevant to the topic being discussed.

The OTA reserves the right to enforce this Acceptable Use Policy at its discretion. This includes the right to ignore, hide or delete posts or ban users for any reason.

Please be aware that the OTA may change this policy at any time.
