Lisa Jane's Story
Lisa is 47 and a mother of three, Lisa also has 2 brothers (one deceased) a mother and father.
Lisa was just promoted to be a Training and Development Manager after a successful career as a Practice Manager with an amazing medical centre company which is privately owned and runs from Noosa right down to King Island in Tasmania.
Lisa was so passionate about her job and about patient care, she witnessed the highs and lows of her patients. She would always greet them with the greatest respect and passion, which I have witnessed first-hand over the years.
Lisa had no set hours, she would always go above and beyond until the project or job was done and it was always detailed and documented.
I have since been informed that her work ethics did not go unnoticed by very senior management, hence why she was held in high regard. Lisa was the fixer, her company would fly (Lisa hated flying) her to sites to mentor managers and train staff and help with new programming.
It was Christmas 2019, one that will go down as the hardest Christmas I have ever had to endure.
It was early one morning in December 2019, lying in bed, when I heard a thud. I rolled over to find Lisa slumped down beside the bed.
I immediately ran to her side of the bed and asked Lisa what’s wrong? She replied to say that she got up to go to the bathroom when she blacked out.
So I helped Lisa to her feet, she then said she was going to be sick so she proceeded to the bathroom. Lisa also asked me to get her an aspirin. Lisa does get migraines as well which is why she asked for an aspirin.
On my return Lisa was laying down back on the bed, so I gave her the aspirin, she said she was going to be sick again, I went to back to the kitchen while Lisa was back in the bathroom, at this time our daughter was with her.
So on my return Chloé (our daughter) called to me saying, "Dad - it’s mum. Something is wrong."
I went to Lisa and saw that she was not breathing but I was not aware that 000 had been called, as there was a voice on Lisa’s phone, I hit the speaker button & the operator said is that you Warren? I said yes.
So I told the operator that Lisa was not breathing, we proceeded with CPR, then in that moment we got colour back. I continued CPR with the support of the operator.
The ambulance had turned up a short time later and they had taken over. The paramedics then turned up as well, so I felt under the circumstances Lisa was in the best possible care at this stage.
We got Lisa to the local hospital and she was placed on life support.
The hospital took CT scans and sent them to Brisbane, then the doctor asked for a consult with us a little time later.
We were sitting with the doctor in a room when he gave us the hard news that Lisa’s soul is no longer with us. Our world was just turned upside down in that moment.
Lisa had suffered an aneurysm and her condition was inoperable.
So the option was given to take Lisa to larger hospital on the Sunshine Coast which has a great ICU, and Lisa would be given the greatest care which would give the family, her colleagues the time to process what has just happened, at this stage I was just totally numb, it rocked me to the core.
We were blessed to have Lisa with us for another three days, during this time we as a family, her colleagues and friends made the absolute most of the time with her.
Organ donation was discussed and given as hard as it was to let Lisa go I know it’s what Lisa wanted. So Lisa is out there somewhere in helping give life, laughter and love to someone else.
Loss of life to one, gifted life to four more and possibly more to come.
So it was time to say goodbye. We were at her bedside, just family, a work colleague were there to say goodbye. I then stood there with Lisa’s mum watching Lisa being wheeled to theatre for the last time.
Lisa loved life to the fullest and right to the end she still gave life, this was always Lisa’s wish to do this, organ donation.
Lisa was a soccer mum and Treasurer of range soccer club for a couple of years
Lisa studied Bachelor Of Business with distinction and a major in Human Resources Management at the Southern University of Queensland.
The up side to this is there are four recipients and their families out there that will have the best Christmas they could have ever asked for.
To the recipients, this is Lisa’s gift to you, I wish on behalf of our family, her work colleagues and friends that you all make a full recovery and lead a full and healthy life, you have our full support and blessing’s.
To the Doctors and especially to the nurses of the ICU we thank you so much for your passion and for your care of our “Lisa Jane” while in your care, and you gave us (family and colleagues) the respect and care as well.
That’s our story
