Harvey became an organ donor (VIC)

Harvey embraced every minute of his life. He was fun, active and adventurous, spending his time fishing, camping and sailing with his wide circle of friends. His passion for riding motorbikes, tractors and 4-wheel driving led to his decision to apprentice as a diesel mechanic.
Harvey was also community-minded, volunteering as a surf lifesaver in his local area. He was named ‘most promising lifesaver’ while completing his Bronze Medallion.
But in 2023, just a few weeks before his 20th birthday, Harvey tragically lost his life in a car accident.
Faced with the decision to donate Harvey’s organs, his mum Erryn and dad Andrew were certain it was the right choice.
‘We didn’t even need to talk it over with each other – we both knew without a doubt, it’s what Harvey would have wanted,’ Erryn says. ‘Helping others was a big part of his personality. We didn’t even realise just how many people’s lives he had touched, until he passed.’
Knowing Harvey gave others a second chance brings some comfort to his family after the tragedy of losing him so suddenly.
Reflecting on her son’s final gift, Erryn says, ‘It makes me feel happy that he could do that. Life is never going to be the same without him, but it feels like he’s still living on, in a sense.’
