Max - donor, VIC
Max was a dedicated family man and loving husband of Trish, who he was wholly committed to, along with his entire family of eight children, 21 grandchildren, and 1 great grandchild. Max was happiest when he was on the farm that he and Trish ran together for decades in the Otways.
Max was a loving, caring, kind and generous person. He always had time for anyone, any time of day. He would sit and listen and offer help or assistance wherever he could without expecting anything in return.
Trish and her family’s lives were changed in an instant, after a tragic farming accident took Max’s life.
Trish said, “Our hearts broke into a million pieces and life as we knew it was turned upside down. It was heartbreaking to say goodbye to someone that meant so much to us; someone who created a family, who loved unconditionally, and gave love and attention without question.”
When Trish and their children heard Max was a registered organ and tissue donor, they were relieved and felt enormously proud of him.
Max was able to donate his lungs, kidneys, corneas, and sclera to eight individual recipients.
Max’s family said, “When we were told that the Transplant Team had successfully retrieved eight viable organs and tissues, we all clapped, it was truly a beautiful and bittersweet moment. We were just so proud of him and so relieved that something so special had come out of this tragedy. There were now eight families that were having a second chance at life, or the chance to have a healthier more fulfilled life, because of dad.”
Trish says, “He was a true hero, giving the gift that would help others live a better life. Max gave throughout his entire life and we are forever proud of him. He will be forever loved, missed and remembered.”
