Nathan Gremmo – Donor, NSW
13-year-old Nathan Gremmo saved the lives of 6 people when he became an organ donor.
Life changed forever for the Gremmo family when Nathan was critically injured in a car accident. In honour of Nathan’s generous personality, his family chose to donate his organs. This gift saved and forever changed the lives of 6 people.
It was a fitting gift from Nathan, described by his parents and sisters as ‘an extraordinary young man’ and ‘a boy with a unique sense of humour, a love for animals and an insatiable energy for life’. Nathan had posted a quote to his Instagram just hours before the accident: ‘You only live once, but if you do it right once is enough’.
Nathan’s legacy is now helping to save many more lives through organ and tissue donation. His family started Jersey Day in his honour – every year, they ask Australians to wear their favourite sporting jersey to school or work on the day, and have conversations about the importance of registering as an organ and tissue donor.
With around 1,800 Australians on the waitlist for an organ transplant, we can all make a difference by registering as donors and letting your family know that you want to be a donor.
