Savi had a liver transplant (QLD)

Three years after Pavi and Chari welcomed their son Ranu, they had a baby girl, Savi. While the pregnancy went smoothly, things changed when Savi was 6 weeks old.

‘I noticed her eyes were yellow while I was nursing her,’ Pavi recalls. ‘I spoke with our community nurse, who immediately referred us to the doctor. That same day, we were sent to the paediatric unit.’

Savi was diagnosed with biliary atresia, a severe genetic liver condition causing jaundice. By the time she was 8 months old, Savi urgently needed a liver transplant.

Her first year, including her first Christmas, was spent in hospital. As they waited for a donor, Pavi and Chari almost lost hope.

‘Day by day, Savi got sicker. We couldn’t believe it as we watched our little angel grow so ill. Some days, the waiting felt unbearable,’ Pavi says.

Then one evening, they received a call from the Liver Transplant Coordinator. A match had been found, and Savi’s transplant was going ahead.

The family is forever grateful to the generous donor who saved Savi’s life.

‘She’s now such a lively, bright little girl—it’s hard to believe how close we came to losing her,’ says Chari.

Savi has since started prep and is thriving. Her big smile, kind heart, and endless energy light up her school and bring joy to her teachers and friends.
