Event details
This event is supported by a DonateLife Community Awareness Grant.
A special free public concert to mark the start of DonateLife Week will be held at Memo Music Hall, St. Kilda on Sunday 28 July.
The concert is headlined by The Oz Transplants, a band made up of organ recipients Paulie Stewart (Painters and Dockers), Indigenous hip-hop star Little G, and Rock Queen Jo Fraser.
Joining them for feature performances are husband and wife donor/recipient duo Fiona Lee Maynard and James Lomas; Nyul Nyul, Jabirrjabirr, Ngumbarl and Jukun singer-songwriter Elijah Augustine; East-African hip-hop artist Kanani; and South-Sudanese Australian singer Ajak Kwai. Special guests include staff from the Austin Hospital.
Organiser Fiona Lee Maynard says, ‘Our event features musicians who have received transplants, are registered organ donors and (in the case of myself), have become a living organ donor… It’s not only the recipients who benefit from organ donations, but their family, loved ones and support teams. This is an incalculable benefit. I’m compelled to promote organ donation and what better way to communicate with all people than through the universal language of music.’
This event is for a diverse array of music lovers, and for anyone interested in the broader discussion of organ and tissue donation.
