The OTA welcomes two new members to the Advisory Board

The Organ and Tissue Authority (OTA) is pleased to welcome two new members to its Advisory Board - Ms Shelly Park and Mr Nick Brown. Both members bring a wealth of experience and knowledge to the Board and have a strong passion for raising awareness of and increasing organ and tissue donation. Nick and Shelly join other Board members - Chair of the Board Dr Mal Washer, Deputy Chair Professor Carol Pollock AO, Mr Oren Klemich and Ms Margaret Kruger.

The OTA Advisory Board will leverage their collective clinical, business management expertise and lived experience to provide counsel and direction to the OTA during its next phase, including navigating the challenges created due to COVID-19.

“I expect the Advisory Board’s diverse and relevant backgrounds will positively impact OTA in achieving its purpose to improve opportunities for transplantation through increased organ and tissue donation.” said the OTA CEO, Ms Lucinda Barry.

In January this year the OTA farewelled two of its Board members Professor Stephen Lynch AC and Dr Marisa Herson. Their expertise and knowledge has been invaluable to the OTA Board and has directly contributed to the important work of the OTA in implementing the national program to increase organ and tissue donation. Dr Herson has been a member of the Board since the inception of the OTA and we acknowledge her outstanding dedication and commitment to donation, in particular sharing her expertise in tissue donation. The OTA thanks them for their valuable contribution.

From 1 November 2021, the revised Australian Organ and Tissue Donation and Transplantation Authority Act 2008 transitioned the OTA Board from being the OTA’s Accountable Authority under the Public Governance, Performance and Accountability Act 2013 (the PGPA Act) to an Advisory Board, with the OTA CEO assuming the role of the Accountable Authority.
