The practical FDC workshop provides training and continuing education to a range of health professionals working in organ and tissue donation. The workshops aim to provide increased skills and practice in having conversations with families about organ and tissue donation and ensuring that families are provided with sufficient information to make an informed and enduring donation decision.
Practical FDC workshops aim to provide participants with the opportunity to reflect on the key teachings of the core FDC workshop and practice challenging scenarios in targeted role plays. In particular, the practical FDC focuses on:
- The key factors in the process, timing and sequence of the donation conversation
- Best practices for supporting families in grief and in the donation conversation
- Strategies to ensure informed and enduring decision making about donation
Practical FDC workshops are facilitated by a national group of trainers which include experienced intensivists, nurses, education coordinators and grief specialists from across the DonateLife Network and Australia.
NOTE: It is a pre-requisite requirement that participants attend a core FDC workshop before attending the practical FDC workshop with a recommended period of at least six months after attending the core FDC workshop before attending the practical FDC workshop. If you are interested in attending a workshop, please contact the DonateLife Agency in the host jurisdiction for details about the workshop. If you are a DonateLife Network staff member, consider contacting the Education Coordinator in your jurisdiction to discuss potential support to attend a workshop in another jurisdiction.
