The ethical guidelines establish a framework to guide ethical practice for decision making regarding eligibility for organ transplant waiting lists, donor suitability and protocols for determining transplant recipients.

The National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) developed these guidelines.

Clinical guidelines for organ transplantation from deceased donors

The clinical guidelines set out eligibility and assessment criteria for organ transplantation, including protocols for the allocation of deceased donor organs to wait-listed patients.

These guidelines were developed by the Transplantation Society of New Zealand and Australia (TSANZ).

These guidelines replace the previous TSANZ Organ Transplantation from Deceased Donors: Consensus Statement on Eligibility Criteria and Allocation Protocols (Version 1.4, 15 April 2015).

We want all Australians to talk about organ and tissue donation. If you want to be a donor, make sure you tell your family and friends.

It doesn’t matter how old you are, your medical history, your lifestyle, what country you’re from or how healthy you are — you can still register as an organ and tissue donor.
